Five areas where we are genuinely world class
We do not pretend to lead in everything. These five areas concentrate two thirds of our research funding, our doctoral studentships and our capital investment, and they are assessed by external panels every three years.
The percentages below show the proportion of each area’s output rated internationally excellent or world leading in the most recent national assessment.
Four institutes, one shared method

An algorithm built with our partner hospital flags deterioration two hours earlier than standard observation charts, and is now used in nine wards.
